Degree: Circular Economy (YmDCIR_EM)

Learning outcomes:

Students who have completed their M.Sc. (Tech.) degree in Circular Economy are able to:

  • understand the necessity of a circular economy
  • understand the requirements of a systemic change
  • apply theories based on circular economy approach to design more sustainable products and services
  • apply theories how to integrate sharing economy in a society
  • recognise the most significant environmental impacts of products and processes and their importance in terms of business
  • assess the possibilities of industrial, service, community, and primary production to reduce negative sustainability impacts
  • assess the complex interlinkages between the local and global sustainability challenges
  • innovate circular solutions in different sectors

Content:

The Master's programme in Circular Economy is offered on the Lahti Campus. MSc programme in Circular Economy is also suitable for people living around in Finland or abroad. The intensive periods are organised in Lahti mostly on Thursdays and Fridays.

  • Higher university degree, gives eligibility to apply for scientific doctoral studies
  • Extent 120 ECTS credits
  • Duration two years, full-time studies of 60 ECTS per academic year

Degree Structure

The Master's degree (120 ECTS) consists of core studies, advanced specialisation studies, minor studies and elective studies. The Master's Thesis and Seminar is included in the specialisation studies.

BH60A5400 Introduction to Circular Economy will be taken in quantity of 5 ECTS cr. BL20A0910 Technology and Society is recommended to take in first year of studies.

Students are recommended to choose one of the following minor studies:

- Energy Technology (Distance Learning) (code EnDETDL)
- Innovaatiojohtaminen (Lahti campus) (code TuDSOInno)
- Suorituskyvyn johtaminen (Lahti campus) (code TuDSOSujo)
- Yrittäjyys (Lahti campus) (code TuSOYrittajyys) or Entrepreneuship (Lahti campus) (code TuSOEntrepre)
- minor studies in Ympäristötieteet, offered by University of Helsinki in Lahti campus

Students may do the minor during exchange abroad (upon application).

Elective studies can be any courses offered by LUT if the required prerequisites are fulfilled. Studies in other universities/from abroad or a max. of 10 ECTS of internship may be included upon application, too.
