Degree: Technical Physics (LaDTeFy_EM)
Period: 2021-2022

Learning outcomes:

After the completion of the MSc programme in Technical Physics the student will obtain sufficient mathematical and computational skills for industry and other research and development tasks in cutting-edge projects.

The students will

  • gain knowledge about basic theory, and computational and experimental methods in modern physics,
  • be able to apply the concepts you learn to new problems,
  • be able to perform pilot simulations and experiments to tackle new phenomena, operate experimental setups, manage data, estimate errors and uncertainties, and communicate new concept in physics effectively,
  • gain competence to learn and work independently on innovative solutions in the areas focusing on sustainable development, such as materials science, nanotechnology, information technology, healthcare, water/air purification and clean energy,
  • gain a professional network, for example, having access to CERN and to prestigious laboratories, universities, industries around the world

  • Degree Master of Science in Technology (M.Sc. Tech.), (Diplomi-insinööri in Finnish)
  • Higher university degree, gives eligibility to apply for scientific doctoral studies
  • Extent 120 ECTS credits
  • Duration two years, full-time studies of 60 ECTS per academic year.

Degree Structure

The Master's degree (120 ECTS) consists of advanced specialisation studies in Technical Physics, minor studies and elective studies. The Master's Thesis and Seminar is included in the advanced specialisation studies.

Students are instructed to choose one of the following minor studies to their MSc degree:
- Applied Mathematics
- Data Analytics and Pattern Recognition
- Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

Students may do the minor during exchange abroad (upon application).

Elective studies can be any courses offered by LUT if the required prerequisites are fulfilled. Studies in other universities/from abroad or a max. of 10 ECTS of internship may be included upon application, too.
