Degree: Technology, Environment and Societal Change (YtMSSST_EM)
Period: 2025-2026

Learning outcomes:

The Master's programme in Technology, Environment, and Societal Change focuses on the systems that keep our society running and how we can use natural resources sustainably, especially when it comes to energy, food, and water. You will learn how technology and society influence each other by studying how different groups (government, businesses, and non-profits) work together toward sustainability.

The program combines interdisciplinary knowledge from different social sciences to help you develop practical, solution-oriented approaches to sustainability challenges. You will explore how decisions are made at local, national, and global levels. Students who have completed their M.Soc.Sc. degree in Technology, Environment, and Societal Change are able to:

  • Explain the key requirements for sustainable transitions and transformations in society
  • Analyse how different systems in society are governed during transition processes
  • Apply theories about sociotechnical systems (how technology and society interact) to develop sustainability policies
  • Identify the most important technological, environmental, and social impacts of transition and transformation processes
  • Understand the complex connections between local, regional, national, and global systems
  • Think innovatively to solve problems related to socio-technical systems
