Learning outcomes:

After completion of the M.Sc. programme in Sustainable Energy Systems, the graduate

- Is able to design, assess and compare emerging energy technologies from technological, economic, environmental and societal aspect.
- Has knowledge on how to apply mathematical and physical fundaments to model, solve and analyse energy technology related problems and challenges and design relevant technology, processes and systems.
- Understands the systemic requirements for emerging energy technologies for their system integration and how these are accounted in energy planning.
- Understands the benefits and drawbacks of different energy conversion and storage technologies and energy carriers and is able to compare them and understands how international energy markets function.
- Can manage and organise projects and is able to work as a project group member and as a specialist in energy technology.
- Is able to communicate and act in academic and research environments.


Content:

• This is a Master of Science in Technology (M.Sc. Tech.), (Diplomi-insinööri in Finnish) degree
• Higher university degree gives eligibility to apply for scientific doctoral studies
• Extent 120 ECTS credits
• Duration two year, full-time studies of 60 ECTS per academic year.

The Master's degree (120 ECTS) consists of core studies, specialisation studies, minor studies and elective studies. The specialisation studies include a Master's Thesis and a seminar.

The extent of the minor studies is a min. of 20 ECTS cr. The following minors are recommended for the M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy Systems:
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
Basic Business Studies (online studies for students of technology)
Software Engineering and Digital Transformation
Industrial Engineering and Management
Study Finnish - Live and Work in Finland for non-Finnish students only).

The student must take enough elective studies to reach the total of 120 ECTS cr. required for the Master’s degree.
