Osaamistavoitteet:

After completion of the M.Sc. programme in Nuclear Engineering, the graduate
• Is able to utilise different numerical methods of reactor physics and thermal hydraulic safety analysis.
• Understands the nuclear fuel cycle.
• Understands and is able to explain the design principles of nuclear reactors, nuclear steam supply systems and safety systems.
• Understands protection against ionizing radiation.
• Can apply and develop mathematical models to solve energy technological problems.
• Is able to manage and organize both national and international projects.
• Can design energy technology related equipment, plants, processes and systems.
• Is able to communicate and act in academic and research environments.
• Can work as specialist in energy technology.

• This is a Master of Science in Technology (M.Sc. Tech.), (Diplomi-insinööri in Finnish) degree
• Higher university degree gives eligibility to apply for scientific doctoral studies
• Extent 120 ECTS credits
• Duration two years, full-time studies of 60 ECTS per academic year.

Degree Structure

The Master's degree (120 ECTS) consists of core studies, specialisation studies, minor studies and elective studies. The specialisation studies include a Master's Thesis and a seminar.

The extent of the minor studies is a min. of 20 ECTS cr.

The following minors are recommended for the M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering:

FyDInt300 Technical Physics.

If the total of specialisation studies exceeds 80 cr., no minor studies are required.

No elective studies are required, as the degree consists of core studies of 28 ECTS, specialisation studies of a min. of 72 ECTS and minor studies of a min. of 20 ECTS.
